Visiting Barry’s, the Infamous Fitness Studio Now Open in Scottsdale

Barry’s is a boutique studio that combines 50% cardio training with 50% strength training in their iconic “red room” for 50-minute long HIIT workouts. With locations in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and London, I was familiar with the brand but had yet to ever take a class. When I learned that Barry’s was opening in Scottsdale, I was excited to try out a class.

Each day of the week at Barry’s Scottsdale has a focus on a specific muscle group and I booked a 7:20am Thursday class which meant a focus on “Abs and Ass”. Rolling out of bed early enough to make this drive was not easy but it was well worth it! The entire staff is very welcoming and I recommend arriving at least 5-10 minutes early to get acclimated. All you need is a water bottle and workout clothes that can handle some sweat! Towels, equipment and lockers are all provided at no additional cost.

When booking, be mindful of your seating selection – there are three categories: F, DF, and T. F spots are for participants who want to start the class with a 10-minute floor routine (then switch to treadmill and repeat). T is for members who wish to begin with a 10-minute treadmill routine (then alternate). DF is for people who want to skip cardio altogether and simply lift the entire 50 minutes. I chose spot F10 which was central and allowed me to get some muscle activations in before my runs.

Overall, the class was high energy and I enjoyed the pace, music, instruction, and sense of community. If you’re like me and regularly work out, you will find the class engaging but not overly challenging. I allowed myself to set my own pace on the treadmill (while following some of the instructor’s directions) and took breaks when needed. I left the studio feeling energized and accomplished that I was able to knock out such an early and intense class and excited to try a new muscle group in my next booking!
